Scholarship Overview
The Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) provides up to fourteen fellowships for postgraduate students and researchers. These are non-renewable grants with financial support of:
- $30,000 for Master’s or Ph.D. students
- $34,000 for Postdoctoral Fellows
- Fellows are required to be in residence in Belgium for a period of 12 months, with a minimum stay of six months.
- Additionally, the Foundation covers health insurance costs through its group policy.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and meet at least one of the following conditions:
- Work towards completing a Master’s, Ph.D, or professional degree program in Belgium during the fellowship year.
- Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate program in the United States and plan to study in Belgium.
- Hold a Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent degree and plan to carry out research in Belgium.
- Postdoctoral applicants must have obtained their Ph.D. within two years before July 1, 2026.
- Applicants are responsible for securing their own admission or affiliation with a Belgian university or research institution. Knowledge of Dutch, French, or German is not mandatory.

- Submit required Documents: Applicant should submit requirements which Include:Undergraduate and graduate transcripts, A brief autobiographical statement, A detailed study or research plan,Three letters of recommendation.
