    The Kellogg Institute for International Studies Visiting Fellowships provide a unique opportunity for scholars and practitioners across the globe to engage in in-depth research and scholarly exchange in a dynamic academic environment. Located at the University of Notre Dame, this prestigious fellowship invites individuals whose work aligns with the Democracy and human development are the central themes of the institute, providing them with the environment, encouragement, and intellectual community they need to conduct innovative research.

    Scholarship Overview

    The Kellogg Institute Visiting Fellowships were established in 1983 to foster interdisciplinary research in international studies. These fellowships enable successful professionals, including journalists, policymakers, and development practitioners, as well as academic scholars, to pursue independent research while immersing themselves in a thriving intellectual community. It is anticipated that fellows will contribute to the Kellogg Institute’s academic community through publications, seminars, and presentations, including the Institute’s own peer-reviewed Working Paper Series.

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Perform studies that are pertinent to the topics of human development and/or democracy.
    • Possess a PhD or its equivalent in history or social science; in rare circumstances, other fields might be taken into consideration.
    • Exhibit a high level of English language competence.
    • Have the ability to obtain a J-1 Visa (for non-US citizens and residents).
    • Be a distinguished senior scholar, a successful practitioner in a related field, or a junior/mid career scholar (postdoc or assistant/associate professor).
    • Applicants who may be ABD (All But Dissertation) must finish their PhD before they can start the fellowship.
    • Adhere to US immigration regulations, such as the two-year restriction on returning as a J-1 research scholar following a previous J-1 term.

    Application Procedures

    The online Interfolio system is where applicants must submit their materials.

    The application must include:

    • A filled-out Institutional Required Information Form (IRIF) and Application for Visiting Fellowship.
    • A cover letter outlining the fellowship’s interest and the desired length of stay.
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
    • Research Project Statement (6–10 double-spaced pages).
    • An abstract that provides a 150-word maximum summary of the proposed project.6. Short Bio (200–300 words).
    • By the deadline, three private letters of recommendation were turned in through Interfolio.
