Mel Fellowship Program is a prestigious opportunity offered by the Maryland Forestry Foundation to support and encourage Maryland college students pursuing careers in Natural Resources and Urban Forestry.
Mel Fellowship Program grants four fellowships for $10,000 each year, supported by a generous annual grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Scholarship Overview
Mel Fellowship Program is named in honor of Mel Noland, a dedicated advocate of sustainable forestry and Chesapeake Bay protection. In 2009, he received one of the highest civilian honors in Maryland, the title of Honorary Admiral of the Chesapeake, for his work with the state’s Forestry Boards and his contributions to forest education.
Mel Fellowship Program honors his memory by helping students interact with practicing forestry experts and get ready for meaningful careers in environmental stewardship.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be college students residing in Maryland.
- Be enrolled in or matriculating into a Natural Resources-related field of study.
- Show a commitment to a career in Natural Resources or Urban Forestry.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and the ability to serve as an ambassador for forestry education and outreach programs.
